Foil fronts, also known as foil facias, are a lower-cost alternative to membrane (foil) keypads.

Foil fronts are made, as required, from dedicated polyester or polycarbonate film which acts as the top (facia) layer.
As in a membrane keypad, the printing is placed on the inner side of the top layer, which prevents it wearing off during use.
Foil fronts can be made in practically any shape and are very thin (down to 200-220 microns) because, unlike membrane keypads, they contain no electrical circuits. These facias can be bonded to practically any substrate with a very strong adhesive layer.
Foil fronts can also protect displays, with a PMMA plate laminated on with optically clear adhesive, which additionally stiffens and strengthens the foil facia.
